Hooded Merganser Lophodytes cucullatus
Food Hooded Mergansers hunt small fish, frogs, and aquatic insects which they pursue in long rapid underwater dives.
Migration They spend summers in the Central United States to Southern Canada. In the winter, they migrate south to the Gulf Coast.
Habitat Wooded ponds, lakes, and rivers. Tidal channels during the winter.
Nesting 8-12 eggs are laid in a cup lined with down in a tree cavity or fallen log.
